What's in a Number?

Last weekend at Michigan, Tony Stewart announced that Ryan Newman would drive the #4 Chevrolet for the new Stewart-Haas race team next year.  A day later, stories surfaced online that Morgan McClure Racing was "not happy" about Stewart taking "their number." Today, an update!  Newman will drive a #39 next season rather than the #4. The most likely scenario is that someone from Morgan-McClure either contacted Stewart and persuaded him to change his mind about using the #4, but Stewart could just as likely have heard about the consternation his choice of number had caused MMR and decided to make the...

Rossi prevails again at Czech GP

The MotoGP bikes took the track today in the Czeck Republic in what was destined to be a rematch of the Rossi vs. Stoner rematch from the Red Bull GP at Laguna Seca.   And for the most part, fans were not let down. Stoner and Rossi started in the first and second positions respectively and after things settled down after a start where Rossi got shuffled back into third.  But after a few laps into the race, the race turned into a two-man battle.  Stoner looked to have the upper hand, and held at least a one-second lead over Rossi.  But in...

Five straight Schumacher...

Dixon tied teammate Dan Wheldon's 2005 championship-winning season record of six wins with the victory at Kentucky Speedway, and put Helio Castroneves (who finished second in the race using a conservative fuel strategy) in a nearly insurmountable 86-point hole going to Infineon Raceway for the next-to-last round of racing. Silverstone friday: Massa crashes, Ecclestone announces British GP moving to Donnington

Formula 1 returned to Silverstone this weekend for the British Grand Prix for the second to last GP to be held at the historic circuit. Bernie Ecclestone announced this weekend that the British GP will be moving to Donnington Park starting in 2010. The loss of Silverstone is a great one for the history of the sport. Silverstone has been a part of Grand Prix racing since the late 1940's and hosted the first Formula 1 World Championship GP in 1950. The move to Donnington Park is the culmunation of years of drama between Bernie...
